Big school of greater amberjack

Do you know why fish form schools?

  • The main reason is to protect by grouping into a tight, regimented pattern, the fish minimise their chance of being picked up by their predators.
  • The second is to enhanced foraging success, because the number of eyes looking for food increases  and when one fish demonstrates feeding behaviour, the others follow.
  • The last reason is to increase the success of finding a mate, improve communication and reduce stress.

Wonder of ‪‎Azores‬ sea by Guy Costa

Dusky grouper

The dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) has a large oval body and a wide mouth. Usually lives alone, hidden in the rocks, at depths below 25 meters. They are extremely friendly following divers during their dives. It's one of the most interesting creatures to observe underwater.
